Erin’s diverse educational interests and professional experiences form the foundation of her inquiry based approach to instruction.   A native of North Carolina, Erin holds a Bachelors of Science in Sustainable Development from Appalachian State University, a Masters of Arts in Teaching Mathematics from Lenoir Rhyne University, and is NC DPI Licensed in Mathematics, grades 6-12.  A former sled dog driver who worked for several seasons on the Mendenhall Glacier in Alaska, Erin brings her passion for the outdoors into her classroom at the Academy, using real world applications to inspire a deeper understanding of the importance of mathematics in everyday life.  A 200-hour training certified yoga teacher, Erin can often be found on the dock or on lawn, practicing yoga with Academy students.  In her free time, Erin spends time hiking in the backcountry with her husband and two rescue sled dogs.
